Folding Wheelchair

The Folding Wheelchair Can Go Anywhere You Can Go

Image of Folding Wheelchair.

Today the most popular wheelchairs in use are no longer the heavy rigid framed relics of a bygone era the folding wheelchair has revolutionized the way a handicapped person can travel around both while he is in his wheelchair and when he is in a motor vehicle of any sort. The new lightweight folding wheelchair can make it very easy to go anywhere in any form of transportation without having to worry about how much space the wheelchair is going to take up as the user can slide into a regular seat and his wheelchair folded up and stored out of the way.

When you are at home and you do not need to use your wheelchair it can be a nuisance to have a big, bulky non-folding wheelchair in the way, if you had one of the folding wheelchairs you could simply fold it up and stow it out of the way until you need it next. As mentioned the old rigid framed wheelchairs tended to be very cumbersome and heavy making it difficult for someone who may not have the upper body strength to actually move their wheelchair around. The average folding wheelchair is much lighter due to its design and construction making it much easier to move around.

Simple Design

While you might think that a fold up wheelchair would have more moving parts and therefore be more complicated to repair, the opposite is more likely to be the case as the simple and lightweight design helps to make it much easier to access any area of the wheelchair and in most cases the repair parts are no more expensive than those for a rigid framed chair.

Electric Is The Way

For those who are for one reason or another unable to provide the muscle power needed to use a manual folding wheelchair there are options available to make it much easier for them to get around . Folding electric wheelchairs are the perfect solution for someone who does not have the upper body strength to use a manual wheelchair, usually if the person does not have the upper body strength to proper themselves they cannot steer a mobility scooter with the tiller either.

The electric folding wheelchair can be steeredwith a minimal amount of pressure on the control joystick using one hand or if necessary just the fingers as the sensitivity can be adjusted to suit the person using the wheelchair. This type of folding wheelchair is made to be partially disassembled and then folded up into a small package that is easy to lift and place in the boot of your car or in the back of a van so that travel is not a problem.

To help make life even easier most of today's ultra lightweight folding wheelchairs have frames that are made from titanium to help keep the weight as low as possible while still maintaining structural strength. If you find the titanium ones a little too expensive you will find plenty of them that are made from aluminum, which is quite strong enough to last for years, but not quite as lightweight as the titanium.

If you like to travel and are an active person you should not let that old fashioned heavy rigid wheelchair slow you down, you need to get into one of the newer lightweight folding wheelchairs and enjoy life.
